Second cane payment for sugar cane growers

Sugarcane growers will soon receive twenty percent cane payment of the 2017 forecast price.

Sugarcane Growers Council chief executive, Sundresh Chetty, says as per the Master Award, cane payments are made five weeks after the termination of crushing.

The Rarawai and Lautoka Mills have already terminated crushing.

”It is likely to be paid to the Lautoka Mill area growers before the end of the month and for Rarawai Mill area growers it will be paid at the end of the month or first week of December.”

The Labasa Sugar Mill will terminate crushing on the 19th of this month.

Chetty says the growers in Labasa can expect the payment before Christmas.

The forecast price for the 2017 season is $65.63.

The growers have already received the first delivery payment of sixty percent of the forecast price which is $39.38.
