Seaweed farming momentum increases

The Fisheries Department is increasing the momentum on seaweed farming on Vanua Levu.

Fisheries officials from Labasa are at Druadrua, Natewa and Naweni to assist with the planting of three thousand lines or a cluster of sea weed.

The initiative is part of efforts to increase seaweed farming to meet rising export demands.

The market price for dried seaweed has increased from about seventy cents a kg to more than a dollar in recent months.

The new price is aimed at encouraging more people to take interest in farming the commodity in large scale.
