Scrap metal dealers have targeted the Deed of Cession monument in the old capital, Levuka.

Lomaiviti provincial administrator, Kelepi Kubunameca says some people tried to remove the monument at Nasova but their attempts were foiled.

“The Scrap metal is a very much risk to the historical town, Levuka, especially when we are concentrating on the heritage listings.”

Kubunameca says some scrap metal dealers tried to enter Ovalau without their knowledge.

However, he adds their movements were closely monitored.
