School zoning is still in place: Dr Reddy

December 30, 2014 12:08 am

The Education Ministry has confirmed that school zoning is still in force in all parts of the country.

Education Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy says queries have been raised as there has been some confusion concerning school zoning.

‘’As you know in the urban there are schools all over, within 2km radius if they still can’t find a place in the nearest school then they should communicate with us, we will provide a space. For rural areas zoning is enforced but the distance is not enforced, you won’t find schools within a two kilometre radius so what we have implied is that if there’s a rural school that slide than the child should not send the child to the urban high school they must send it to the rural schools if they want to’’.

However the Education Minister says this will be the parents own choice in terms of bus fare schemes as students won’t be eligible to get the vouchers.

Secondly, urban schools will first take students within the 2km radius and if there’s space then a seat will be allocated to students coming in from the rural areas or those wanting to study in that particular school.
