Education Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy has reminded the Northern School Management Association about the proper usage of the Free Education grant in schools.

Reddy told the Association, an audit into the use of the grant reveals that 20 per cent of the schools nationwide abused the grants given to them last year.

_"We want to work closely with you so you can understand your roles and responsibility, so you understand that the grant was to enhance the teaching and learning environment. It is to allow you to ensure that the institution has all the resources and infrastructure for ease of learning."

Reddy says the government is providing the grant to boost the teaching and learning resources for teachers and students in schools and should be used accordingly.

He says school managements should adhere to the allocation given and any misappropriations will be dealt with accordingly.
