The Fiji Sugarcane Growers Council has welcomed the sugar cane base price of $85 per tonne for the next three years announced in the 2018/2019 budget.

Chief Executive Sundresh Chetty says this innovative financial measure in partnership with FSC will instill confidence and provide price certainty to farmers.

“I am sure this will bring more confidence to the farmers and there should be no reason why growers should not invest more in their farms. We know that the current level of production has fallen down but we are trying our best”.

Chetty says as of last week only 52 percent of the gangs were operating in the Northern Division.

He urged the farmers to work with their gangs and earn a lot more.
