SCGC encourages farmers to apply for grants

The second phase of cane planting starts from September and the Sugar Cane Growers Council is encouraging all growers to start preparing their land.

SCGC chief executive Sundresh Chetty says after land preparation, farmers can apply for the cane planting grant scheme.

He says this grant assistance is also available for farmers who have not been producing sugar cane for some years now but are still registered growers.

“Sugar Cane Growers Council is urging growers to take advantage of the Government grant available and immediately commence land preparation in advance and be ready for planting when the weather gets favorable.”

In the 2018/2019 national budget, $15.4 million has been allocated for cane development together with several other programs for the sugar industry.
