The Suva City Council has announced a massive flood appeal for flood victims in the Western division.

Special Administrator Chandu Umaria says Council trucks will be out in all council boundaries starting this hour asking for donations excluding cash.

He says people can donate food items, clothes, kitchen utensils, beddings, school items and other meaningful items which they consider useful and would be appreciated by the recipients.

However he has advised people not to give away junk items or items which will no longer be useful to flood victims.

Trucks will be seen in all areas covered under the Suva City Council boundaries and collection will continue until Sunday.

14,000 people had to flee from their homes after the recent flood which prompted Authorities to open at least a record 180 evacuation centres in Vitilevu.
