The Suva City Council is working on being recognised as the Cleanest City in Fiji.

Two new garbage trucks and a shredder machine were launched today to improve the city’s waste management system.

Minister for Environment Parveen Kumar says the $705,000 investment hopes to encourage ratepayers and Suva residents to change their attitude towards littering.

‘’I must urge the Suva ratepayers to have pride in your city, who’s creating this mess, who’s throwing rubbish here and there? It’s us. And then we have to spend close to a million dollars buying equipment and providing services for these’’.

Special Administrator Chandu Umaria says this needs to be done with a change in behavior and mind set.

The Council plans to introduce initiatives next year to recognize the cleanest schools, communities and homes.
