The heavy rains last night gave no comfort to families in Qauia, Lami.
FBC News spoke to a few families who were forced to relocate in the middle of the night, braving strong winds and heavy rains.
Electricity supply was cut off at around 10pm and by midnight the tide had come in resulting in flood waters gushing into homes.
“I took my phone when I put the light on the water was just right up to the second step of my house and it was all of a sudden so what I did was I took the boat from underneath the house and my family put all the good stuff inside the boat and I knew if the water keeps rising it would keep afloat out belongings.”
The Fiji Military Forces was on hand and helped take five families to higher ground.
Other residents, took shelter with neighbours whose homes weren’t affected.
