Fiji established diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia at a ceremony at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in New York yesterday.
A protocol and joint communiqué was signed between Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Abdullah Yahya Al-Mouallimi, and his Fijian counterpart Peter Thomson.
Following the ceremony both ambassadors held talks on areas of common interest between their two countries and areas of cooperation at the United Nations.
Fiji’s long service in the cause of United Nations peacekeeping in the Middle East was acknowledged with great respect.
Also discussed was the growing inter-regional cooperation between the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Pacific Small Islands Developing States.
