Sanitation Upgrade for Kalekana

December 3, 2012 6:01 pm

People have been encouraged to come forward with issues they face every day and not wait for government intervention.

Minister for Local Government Col. Samuela Saumatua says only then can the government work with communities.

“The community must be involved and this is what we’re doing encouraging the people to be involved in the decision making, in generating funds and savings and so forth towards their development.”

Col. Saumatua was speaking to residents of Kalekana settlement outside Lami yesterday after the ground breaking ceremony of the city wide project.

It includes the upgrading of amenities in the settlement – co-funded by the government and NGOs.

More than fifty homes in Kalekana will have new toilets and bathrooms, promoting healthy and safe living.
