Sahyadri withdraws Fiji services

October 21, 2015 6:52 pm

Minister for Health Jone Usamate says the National Federation Party has been providing inaccurate information in regards to patients booked for surgeries with Sahyadri Hospital.

The NFP claims two people died while waiting for treatment, but the Ministry confirms only one patient died due to multiple organ failure and the individual was not an emergency case.

The NFP has also claimed that there were 20 patients who’ve lost out on treatment with Sahyadri Hospital, while the Health Ministry’s records show that there were only 12 booked for Coronary Artery By Pass Graft Surgery.

Three private patients had fully paid their fees which has been reimbursed while three other patients were sent to Fortis Hospital for surgery in September.

The Ministry has confirmed that Sahyadri Hospital has pulled out its services, saying it was informed by the service provider until the 6th of August.

The statement goes on to say that there is a guideline for overseas referrals which ensures that the Ministry carefully determines which patients will be assisted.

This in turn ensures that public funds are being used appropriately to benefit as many Fiji citizens as possible.
