High expectations are on the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji to ensure that all boats around the country are safe for the public to travel on.

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Jone Usamate reiterated that the safety of all citizens traveling by sea is paramount.

Usamate says shipping laws apply to all types of shipping services in Fiji.

“All ships should be meeting the standard that is there to ensure the safety of people traveling in Maritime areas”.

The Ministry is now working on ensuring that safe ships are purchased by company owners if it has to serve for Fijians.
