All rural water projects that is to be undertaken in the country will now have to be registered.
This applies to NGO’s , overseas based-organizations and other individuals – as required under the new rural water and sanitation policy.
Director Water and Sewerage Sereicocoko Yanuyanurua says the project plans will also have to be approved first.
“Otherwise the Ministry of Provincial Development – once they see you there without their knowledge they have every right to chase you out of that village and community. The plans – the technical designs and all those is approved by the Department of Water and Sewerage.”
Yanuyanurua says this is done to ensure that the water is safe for consumption.
Before any piping is done – the quality of the water has to be tested – the quality and the quantity. If the quality does not meet the drinking standard – they have to propose some sort of treatment.
Authorities will also see to it that procedures are followed.
