Ruling on corruption case

Suva High Court Judge Justice Prabaharan Kumararatnam will this afternoon deliver his judgment in the case of 3 former Post Fiji Limited executives who face corruption charges.

Two court assessors found the former Chairman Mahendra Patel guilty of one count of Abuse of Office.

Former Managing Director Peni Mau has been found guilty of one count of Extortion and former General Manager Finance, Dhirendra Pratap has been found guilty of one count of giving false information to public officers.

The remaining third assessor gave a not guilty verdict to the three men.

Patel, Mau and Pratap were charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) in 2010 for corruption related offences.

The Prosecution called eight witnesses while Mau and Pratap took to the Witness in their defence.

Patel who is in Australia has been tried in absentia.

Justice Kumararatnam will deliver his judgment at 2.30pm today.
