Rough seas force PM to cancel Lau trip

Adverse weather conditions and rough seas have forced Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to cancel his trip to Lau and return to Suva.

The Prime Minister left Suva last night to open the Lau Provincial Council meeting in Lakeba today.

However, the head of the government decided to return to the capital due to the adverse weather conditions they experienced at sea.

Bainimarama says he also made this decision due to the safety of the crew and passengers.

Assistant Itaukei Affairs Minister Selai Adimaitoga will now open the Lau provincial council meeting today on behalf of the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Bainimarama, yesterday called on Fijians to adhere carefully to the advice from the authorities during adverse weather conditions.
