The people of Rotuma have requested the government to develop Oinafa – one of the seven districts on the island.
During a talanoa session with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, a representative suggested that there is a potential to set-up a commercial centre in Oinafa.
The islanders say there is already an existing building in the district and the people will be able to set-up small shops and markets following its refurbishment.
They say this will be ideal as the Port of Oinafa has now been upgraded.
The islanders propose that with the assistance from the government Oinafa can become their second commercial centre.
Currently Ahau is the only commercial center in Rotuma.
