The Fiji Roads Authority says tests have confirmed that no toxins are being discharged from its asphalt plants.

Chief Executive Jonathan Moore says out of the four plants only two are in operation.

Moore says recently concerns were raised however, tests carried out by the Environment Ministry confirms the plants did not discharge toxins.

He says they had to close the plant for some time which affected their ability to carry out road surfacing.

“Right now we are on restricted use but hopefully in the near future we will have full use of the plant so that we can get on with work we do. It’s important to arrest the problems with the road but also there are some major projects coming up over the next 12 months that will require large volumes of asphalt.”

The two plants in questioned are in Walubay and Nausori.
