The Fiji Roads Authority has mapped out a solution to tackle illegal parking and to help improve traffic flow in Suva.
This, as the Authority, has implemented a clearway traffic management restriction which will come into effect from the 8th of next month.
It says that these clearway traffic restrictions will be strategically placed on the kerb-side lane roads around the capital during peak hour traffic.
Chief Executive Jonathan Moore says this restriction will prevent all vehicles from stopping, picking-up, dropping-off and parking during peak traffic periods in both directions.
Moore adds they will be working with schools along these routes to designate specific drop-off and pick-up zones, adding that the first implementation Stage 1 is the McGregor – Bau – Rewa Street route.
He says these restrictions will allow the full width of the road corridor to be available during the heaviest periods of traffic congestion.
Moore adds if the restrictions are not adhered to, a fine will be issued to the driver of the vehicle.
The FRA also clarified that clearways are also towed away zones and any vehicle parked in a clear way will be towed and a fine will be issued.
