The Fiji Roads Authority has asked the Land Transport Authority to consider installing traffic cameras along the Kings road.

This is from Rewa Bridge to Nakasi in nine miles.

The attitude of arrogant and inconsiderate drivers has led the Fiji Roads Authority to suspend night works on the four-lane road which is now expected to further delay the project.

Chief Executive Jonathan Moore says work on the 3.8km upgrade project expected to be completed by the end of next month may be impossible.

Moore says some motorists drive on the Kings Road like it’s a busy highway, instead of a road under construction.

“If drivers continue to drive recklessly and ignore all the signs and put my guys at risk we may end up closing sections of the road or put speed breakers. I have already asked LTA to consider putting traffic cameras there once the work is complete on the entire length to try and manage the speed issue. Its reckless and it is stupid.”

Motorists are urged to slow down as indicated by the temporary traffic signs, follow the instructions of the site traffic personnel, and pay attention while driving along the construction sites.
