The safety of pedestrians and other road users has become a concern along the new Kings Road four-lane project from Nakasi to Nausori.

Dangerous driving, especially speeding, has resulted in accidents being recorded on a weekly basis.

29-year-old Timaleti Naqera, who resides near the main road in Nakasi – says some of the drivers’ behavior is really bad and she is concerned about her children’s safety.

It’s kind of risky because I am a mother of two children and I can’t let my children to come outside and play outside because we are near the road. Accidents happen almost daily. At night time drive carelessly, they have no patience and they drive as if they are in a race.”

Naqera says last week they witnessed an accident meters away from their house and safety has become a concern for the whole community.

“They drive carelessly, they have no patience just to think about people who live near the road. Just to drive slowly because they have to think about children living near the road too. These children will have to cross the road to go to school.”

Meanwhile, the Fiji Roads Authority says they are working with relevant stakeholders to get speed cameras installed in this area.
