Land Transport Authority chief executive, Samuel Simpson will meet the Fiji Bus Operators Association soon to discuss ways to bring changes to the industry.

Simpson says after his early observations, he believes a lot can be done to coordinate and better publicize the bus services.

Simpson says there is a lack of coordination of bus time tables and steps need to be taken to improve this.

“Like a journey planner – we pull all the timetable information to the Central IT system and we are able to provide smart phone access. You know if you want to go from point A to point B – you take that in, you say what time you want to travel, the date and all and it produces a plan for you. So that is common in other territories and it is something that we will consider for Fiji – because you know we’ve got timetable all over the place. The LTA publishes the timetable on their website but there is no central repository for those timetables.”

While welcoming the e-ticketing initiative Simpson says this was a positive step forward.
