With potholes becoming a growing concern, contractors carrying out these repairs are now being strictly monitored.

During a forum with the Fiji Roads Authority and the Land Transport Authority, questions were raised on the quality of work done to repair potholes.

FRA Chief Executive Jonathan Moore says repairing potholes during rainy periods has been a trend in the past.

“Quality is being appalling. One of the reasons for that people in the past had to work their targets and it rains, pothole repairs, we must go and repair the potholes. There hasn’t been a though process to say hang on a minute, let’s do something different.”

Moore says they are now sending out their inspection teams to ensure this is not being repeated.

“Going forward this won’t be happening. I am not spending twenty million dollars in another year on potholes repairs which are going to be minimized.”

The FRA says pothole repairs are a temporary measure.

Contractors are now being engaged to undertake full carriageway repairs to address this growing issue.
