Road Maintenance work brings relief to farmers

January 28, 2018 7:00 pm

Four years of struggle caused by poor road conditions will end for farmers and villagers living and working along Naveiwalai Road, outside Nausori.

FHH Rewa Depot Supervisor, Ulaiasi Bolalailai says the recent upgrading work carried out by Fulton Hogan Hiways has significantly improved access, especially in rainy weather.

FHH will grade and compact Naveiwalai Road with particular attention paid to a two-kilometer section at the far end of the road that needs to be widened from three to five meters.

Bolalailai said the overgrown grass has not only narrowed the road but it has also made the section slippery and dangerous to drive on in the rain.

He adds farmers have to carry their produce from the end of the road for two kilometers before they can access a carrier or a 4-wheel drive to get to the market.

Fulton Hogan Hiways says it worked closely with the Road Authority to complete the drainage and remove the high shoulders.

FHH says it will continue to upgrade and provide road maintenance for the Central and Northern Divisions.
