A report in the United Nations reveals that two in every three women in the Pacific are victims of violence.
In an effort to address the issue, the UN Women is partnering with various faith and sports-based organization in the country to reduce cases of violence against women.
UN Women Representative, Nicholas Burniat says they have stepped up their awareness programs to address the issue.
“We have launched recently a partnership with the House of Serah, the Anglican Church and with a Sports based organization, we launched a partnership with the Oceania Rugby on the roles Sportsman should play. We have launched a Pacific partnership to end violence against women. That was launched earlier this year with the support from EU and the Australian government.”
Burniat says they’re also working with women groups in an effort to prevent violence before it happens.
