RFMF to ensure safe election next year

July 19, 2017 5:51 pm

The Fiji Military Force will work closely with the Police Force in ensuring a safe election is held next year.

RFMF Commander, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto says this is to help maintain the current peace and stability in the country.

“We are behind the police as they take the lead in security but we are watching and we’re listening to the ground as to what is happening but we’re certainly ready to support the police in any way. To ensure the current peace prevails, hope that it continues well into the future through elections, pass elections. We’ve learnt from the past where law and order had broken down in Fiji and we don’t want that to happen again.”

Naupoto says the military will ensure the coup culture is not repeated and want people to freely exercise their right to vote.

RFMF says soldiers will be undergoing internal security exercises in preparations to the 2018 general election.
