The Republic of Fiji Military Forces are only carrying out essential services until the beginning of the new financial year.

RFMF Commander Read Admiral Viliame Naupoto says it’s commonplace for this time of the year for the military to wind up their operations.

Commander Naupoto clarifies that as this is the case, some of the members of the force have been rostered to work half days while still getting paid their full salary.

“The books about to be closed right now and we do not want to go into the red, we call it a reduced activity period whereby those that have a lot of leave are asked to go on leave and then we really just walking on essential, very key services right now, so no training apart from the training for those who have to go overseas for peacekeeping.”

Meanwhile, the RFMF have been allocated $95.5 million for the new financial year, of which 95 percent of the budget will be used on operating expenditure.
