The Republic of the Fiji Military Forces has been on standby to assist in case of flooding or if a Cyclone strikes.

Commander of the RFMF, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto, says they have trained the members of the special unit who are tasked to deal with Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief work.

Naupoto says this will equip the officers to respond well to the needs of the people if a natural disaster strikes.

“We have restructured one of our Territorial battalion used to be 6FIR or an infantry battalion, it is no longer an infantry battalion but it’s a battalion that is mend by doctors, nurses, logisticians and engineers.”

Naupoto says this is why the Force has restructured its operation this year.
