Inmates who are from the Province of Rewa and Namosi now have hope in getting employment when they finish serving their time in corrections.

This is after the Rewa and Namosi Care signed an MOU with the Fiji Correction Service today.

FCS Commissioner Francis Kean says it’s vital for rehabilitation work to continue outside corrections.

“As of last year, we are extending this rehabilitation efforts out to the communities, out to the doorsteps and the homes of those who were once under our care, and this strategy requires the commitment, involvement of the Vanua, of the communities but most importantly family and friends, to ensure that those who leave our care, that they can go back and live law abiding lives.”

Kean says having an MOU in place, allows the committee of the Rewa and Namosi care to visit inmates from their village and organize employment or to be self-employed when they are free.

He says that they will soon have this committee in the Province of Tailevu, Lau, Kadavu and Serua.

Kean adds that they will also extend this to religious organizations.
