Review policies and then vote: FijiFirst

October 20, 2018 7:08 pm

FijiFirst general secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum yesterday urged the voters in Nadi not to cast their votes this general election based on a single issue or policy.

He says politicians at the moment will say anything to influence people to vote for them.

“Somebody will come and say to you to look at the road in your village, to your settlement or over there- there are too many pot holes. Vote for me, we will fix up the road. Don’t just vote because of that. Look at everything else, look at all the other policies. There are many people who will come around telling us all sorts of stories.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says politicians will be taking advantage of this election period making false promises to secure votes.

“The opposition about a year ago said that they will offer free education when they form the next government. Then they suddenly realized how much it will cost. They said we will pay for half. NFP is saying, we will pay for first year but 2nd and 3rd year you have to pay. They don’t know what they want.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says the FijiFirst Government has also introduced initiatives like family care leave, schemes for the elderly and pensioners as well. He says this will continue when they form the next government post November 14.
