Review done on Disability Act

A new decree to protect the rights of disabled persons will be implemented soon.

Fiji National Council for Disabled People executive director – Kaushaliya Devi says the review has been completed on the existing act and it has been approved by the cabinet.

Devi says they are waiting for the permission, to implement it.

Some amendments were done to the 20-year old current Act, to help disabled persons live a better life.

Devi says this will allow people with disabilities enjoy the basic comforts of life.

She says the new decree will empower people with disabilities to demand the same rights, access and provisions also enjoyed by the able bodied.
