An 84-year-old retired gold mine worker died after he was allegedly trapped in a house fire early yesterday morning.

The incident occurred at Nararavou Village in Ra.

The victim’s son reported the fire at the Rakiraki Police Station.

Attempts by neighbors to put out the fire, and save the deceased, proved futile.

A joint investigation between police and the National Fire Authority is underway.
