The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission is urging Fijians to keep receipts of everything they purchase this festive season.

Commission’s chief executive, Joel Abraham says as seen in the past, traders try to sell their old stock during the busy season, and sometimes even end up putting expired products on the shelves.

Abraham says if expired products are sold, the money can be recovered by show of receipts.

“There are certain good associated with festivities especially Diwali. You have things like condensed milk, semolina, things that are used to make sweets. Consumers need to check the expiry dates to make sure these products are not expired, to ensure this is of good and merchantable quality. When you are buying fire crackers ensure it is new and not damp. And please also retain your receipts when buying things.”

The authorities have their officers out in the field to monitor the all traders. On the other hand consumers are being advised to exercise their rights while shopping.

People are also being urged to avoid impulsive buying.
