Resolve issues without resorting to violence: ACP Nair

There are ways and means to resolve issues without having to resort to violence.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police – Itendra Nair says recent incidents of assaults and attacks against police officers has prompted a reminder for the public to think before they act.

“There are better means and ways of dealing with maybe domestic issues. Please ensure that we are able to control, if we drink, we drink responsibly and we are able to resolve our issues, domestic related issues in a much more amicable manner and please remember that the Police Officers are there to provide assistance to the members of the community and not to be harmed in the manner in which our facilities and resources has been harmed.”

Meanwhile, ACP Nair has commended the actions of Special Constable Julie Tuikenawa given her quick response to a cane knife yielding assailant who was drunk and tried to attack her while she protected his wife.

The domestic dispute yesterday spilled over into the Delainavesi Community Police Post in Lami and while no one was injured, the police property was damaged.

The 25-year-old suspect remains in custody at the Lami Police Station.
The cost of damage to the Police Post is still being assessed.
