Serious concerns have been raised by people living close to the Vunato Rubbish Dump in Lautoka, which continues to give off smoke after an early morning fire yesterday at the dump.
Reliance Road resident, Mary Elder says it’s a health concern as they continue to breathe the smoke filled air.
“It’s hard because we live here and we were born and raised up in this area, before it used to happened but every once in a while but now this year it’s the second time and it’s very bad.”
Another resident Neibuka Naruma says that they have become use to this situation as fire have occurred so many times at the Vunato Rubbish Dump.
Naruma says that if the situation gets worse than they will have to evacuate for a while.
Meanwhile, the National Fire Authority together with the Lautoka City Council are closely monitoring the situation to ascertain the cause of the fire on Monday.
