Residents face loneliness: Fatiaki

One of the major challenges faced by the residents at the Old Age homes is discrimination as they feel they are not respected and loved by the society.

Social Welfare Director Rupeni Fatiaki says the residents of homes face being lonely as they don’t have anyone to talk to.

Fatiaki says when the residents come to old people’s home they come from different families and different environment and feel left out.

“They may be seen active but I believe deep down in their hearts is the feeling of loneliness of not being wanted as they have been rejected by their family members and loved ones.”

Meanwhile, oldest resident at Samabula old people’s home is Benina Ciriavesi who is 92 years old and has been staying at the home for the past seven years.
