The Police Force is concerned with the increasing number of reports involving children.

Police say four families are already mourning the loss of a child as we enter the eight week school holidays.

In a recent incident a seven-year-old girl committed suicide on Wednesday afternoon at her home in Mauvu Village Ba and in another incident a sixteen-year-old student took her own life at her Lautoka home on Thursday.

Meanwhile a six-year-old has been discharged from the CWM Hospital after she was allegedly hit by a taxi driven by a twenty-five-year-old.

It is alleged she suddenly crossed the road at Sangam Road in Narere when she was hit.

And today the search for an eight-year-old who went missing while waiting for a relative near the Nagata River in Labasa continues.

The child was sitting by the riverbank and her aunt was diving when she disappeared. It is believed she may have fallen into the river.

A Search & Rescue team has been activated

Police Chief of Operations, ACP Rusiate Tudravu, says we have entered the school holiday period and safety of children must be prioritized.

ACP Tudravu says four deaths involving our children must serve as a reminder to all parents and guardians that more needs to be done to ensure their safety during the school holidays.
