Education Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy has confirmed that a report on the death of three primary school students last week is unrelated to the education system.

Dr Reddy says the Ministry has identified that the students died from self inflicted harm and not because of a fear of exam.

The Minister says, the students and their parents gave a recorded interview revealing their actions did not have anything to do with the education system.

“The problem was for one student was a failed love affair, the other student broken marriage and therefore lack of love from parents and the third student basically was ill treated by his parents so the lack of parental support has led to the students taking their own life.”

The report was compiled by the Education Ministry and has been handed to Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at his request.

The three primary school students 14 year old Rahil Chand and 13-year-old’s Ayush Kumar and Ashneel Lal died from self inflicted harm.
