The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights is well on its way to keeping its deadline.

Committee Chair, Alvick Maharaj says they expect to table their report on the Code of Conduct Bill in April.

Maharaj says around 40 submissions both oral and written were received on the Bill which all supported the implementation of the legislation.

The proposed legislation aims to hold all public officials to a level of accountability that is unprecedented.

“We have compiled all the points that needs clarity on and we have actually written to the drafters, to the SG’s office and we are just awaiting for them to respond before we actually compile our reports with regards to the Code of Conduct Bill.”

Meanwhile the committee is currently carrying out public consultations on the Adoption Bill and will head to the North tomorrow.

Maharaj says the committee will be in Wainikoro on Wednesday morning followed by a session in Daku in the afternoon.

On Thursday, they will travel in Labasa with a scheduled stop in Seaqaqa at midday before a 3pm appointment in Savusavu.

On Friday, the committee will be in Dreketi and Bua and on Saturday they will head to Nabouwalu.
