Large sections of roads around the country are currently undergoing replacement work to improve their layout and condition.
Fiji Roads Authority chief executive, Jonathan Moore says work has already begun in Navua, Suva, Rakiraki and Vanua Levu.
Moore adds as part of these rehabilitation work, FRA will soon begin replacement work on Suva’s Queen Elizabeth drive up to Fletcher Road in Vatuwaqa.
“We are planning to extend this right to Fletcher Road so the entire length of Queen Elizabeth Drive is refurbished completely. It is not just a surface layer but it’s a total reconstruction. We will re-do the drainage, street light, landscaping, footpaths and cycle tracks as well.”
Moore says they’re also focusing on the four-lane road project between Nadi and Lautoka.
“In the planning phase now is the Nadi-Lautoka four lane project. We have gone through that one on feasibility and route selection. We are now letting our contract for detailed investigation. We are doing the same work for the Labasa By-pass.”
The Fiji Roads Authority has also identified 19 roads in the greater Suva area to undergo re-sealing through the Suva Arterial Road Upgrading Project 2 in the coming months.
