In an effort to end the problem of a bad smell from the river at Nabua in Suva, a permanent sewer pipe is currently being installed.
The pipe at 4 miles, replaces the old one that collapsed into the river a few years ago and is expected to be completed in July.
Infrastructure Minister, Jone Usamate has confirmed the stink coming from this area will soon be a thing of the past.
“Putting in new piles and all of those things to come in so that there can be gravity flow of the sewerage from Suva to go back to Kinoya and that is something that has been ongoing from December 2018 and looking at the progress there has been some good progress in the work that’s been done there.”
Usamate had also mentioned that it’s vital to the Water Authority that the sewage is moved safely to ensure public health is not endangered.
The project cost $2.2 million.
