Rental cars must comply with LTA policy

June 24, 2015 5:06 am

Rental car companies have one year to comply with new policies set out by the Land Transport Authority.

New vehicles can only run as rental cars for eight years from the date of registration and second hand vehicles will only operate for three years.

Fiji Rental Association President Mohammad Sareem says the decision will impact its members.

“Some of our members who are operating using older vehicles would have to phase those vehicles out within one year’s time. LTA has basically come up with these age restrictions for vehicles that can be used from here on.”

Hertz Rent- a-Car manager Rohini Raj says the policy will be disheartening news for illegal operators in the market as they will have to register their vehicles with the LTA under the new policy.

70 rental car companies were called to a meeting with the LTA today where they were told about the new policy on rental cars.
