Peacekeeping veterans, ex-servicemen, families of current UN peacekeepers and the diplomatic corp were hosted to an evening reception by President Major Gen (ret.) Jioji Konrote in Suva last night.

The event marked the week-long commemoration of the 40th anniversary for Fiji’s contribution to UN peacekeeping duties.

Deputy Secretary for Ministry of Defence and National Security, Illai Moceica says it’s important to remember the tremendous sacrifices of our fallen peacekeepers.

“So it’s a milestone achievement that we’ve had as a nation where our peacekeepers contributed to world peace, making sacrifices and carry out services in reaching out to those who are less fortunate – coming through the sketches of war. And also our peacekeepers contributed to national building.”

Moceica says it was also an event to acknowledge the families of those soldiers who did not return home and paid a heavy price for world peace.
