Remember our fallen soldiers: Usamate

October 4, 2017 12:45 am

It’s important to remember those soldiers who sacrificed their lives in peace keeping missions to ensure Fijians enjoy the freedom we have today.

This was highlighted by Acting Minister for Defence and National Security, Jone Usamate while launching the poppy appeal in Suva this morning.

Usamate says Fijians should always remember our fallen soldiers and not take the current freedom for granted.

“The launch of this poopy appeal today reassures Fiji’s continued recognition of that priceless sacrifice made by the sons and daughters of Fiji, who served in the Fijian armed forces during the first and second world wars. The Malayan campaign, Christmas Island and the many peace keeping missions around the world. Obviously Fiji has previously and continues to participate in peace making missions where our Fijians serviceman and women have flown the Fijian flag with pride.”

Usamate is urging everyone to donate generously to the appeal as all funds collected will be forwarded to the ex-serviceman association.
