Remedial work at Veisari landslip to stop future landslides

October 10, 2018 1:05 am

The Fiji Roads Authority is carrying out remedial work on the Queens Road landslip at Veisari, Lami to avoid any future landslides.

Access to the highway is often reduced to a single lane or completely blocked due to landslides following continuous heavy rain.

Chief Executive, Jonathan Moore says they will terrace the slopes backwards.

“We dig back into the hill, for around four meters and then we form a slope and then we get four meters up and we dig up another three meters flat and then we dig another 45 degrees slope four meters and another flat so it goes up in steps.”

More says the remedial work will reduce the danger of any future landslide.

“By doing that you spreading out the load of the soil in front so it moves more towards the back so the potential for the slips is far far less.”

A maintenance contractor has been hired to carry out the urgent work to end the landslide threat.
