Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation has called on faith-based organizations to advocate on poverty alleviation and other social issues.

While addressing the church congregation at the New Methodist Christian Fellowship Global Conference yesterday, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says religious congregations around the country play an important role in addressing these issues.

Vuniwaqa urged hundreds of people at the conference to play a more active role and help those around them to elevate the standard of living in Fiji and alleviate poverty.

She also stressed that as religious groups, they can be great advocates at the local, state, and national levels for the poor, working for equitable and just policies that provide a safety net for society’s most vulnerable people.
