Relief Rations priority for those severely affected by Winston

72 hours after the wake of Tropical Cyclone Winston & the mammoth devastation in the Western division is obvious.

In Ba today, power is still out with a number of power poles damaged & lying on the ground.

Many homes in Varadoli, Ba have been completely damaged leaving residents to salvage what they can.

Romi Kishore of Ba Arya Samaj Primary School says he’s been through a few cyclones but this was the worst.

Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau says relief rations have been packed and teams will today be deployed to take them out.

In the Western Division, there are 6,000 people living in evacuation centres, more than a thousand are whole families.

Commissioner Tagicakibau clarified that relief rations will only be given to those whose livelihoods have been lost and not to those whose dwellings has been damaged only.

He says it needs to be made clear as much as possible, that the emergency team’s priority is to be efficient in its ration distribution.
