Fijians will soon be able to register the birth of their child using a mobile App.

This was revealed by the Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum during the CPA Congress Fiji in Sigatoka this morning.

Sayed-Khaiyum says they met with a team from Singapore two days ago that will assist in developing the software for government services.

He says they expect to roll out the pilot project for the registration of births via mobile phones in a few weeks.

“For parents in particular mothers when you go to the hospital you are given your birth document with the mothers name but now you will get a unique number and you will simply on your mobile phone download the app and you fill in the details.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says after the details have been filled, the application will be sent to the Birth, Death and Marriages Office.

He says when the office has approved the application, parents will then be asked to give a specific time they would like to pick the birth certificate.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the payment will be online based.

The Acting Prime Minister also says they will invite other relevant stakeholders to join the platform.
