The Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Lautoka yesterday opened its doors to members and the public following a refurbishment.
Architectural Manager John Grey says with construction work starting in November last year, the Parish received a state of the art upgrade after 55 years.
Grey says the Parish which is located in Lautoka City was first built in the 1950s and could only accommodate 200 people can now have more than 1,000 people in the church.
“The design as you heard from the Archbishop comes from Vatican II where it requires we bring people to the sanctuary of the altar.”
This Parish serves for Catholics residing in and on the outskirts of Lautoka City and with the indication that there has been an increasing number of Catholics in the Lautoka area, the church will definitely be a beacon.
The cost of the upgrade was around $800,000.
